On the Sea

Ljungskile Bay is protected by Orust rising up against the Skagerrak. Here in the inner archipelago, the nature is more lush compared to the more rugged and dramatic outer archipelago, and the calmer sea is well-suited for less experienced seafarers. The bay, which became known during the spa era for its balsamic climate, has about ten islands, several beaches, and cliffs suitable for excursions and swimming. We aim to make the sea as accessible as possible for our guests; jetty swimming, hot tub bathing, sauna bathing, and cliff swimming can be varied with trips in a rowboat, kayak, canoe, or SUP.

Sauna bathing and hot tub

”Cold sea bathing is an excellent remedy, provided it suits the patient, but on the other hand, it is a double-edged sword that can do more harm than good if used recklessly.”

We believe, contrary to Dr. Levertin, that cold sea bathing almost always does good, but that for a large part of the year, it is suitable to combine it with sauna bathing or hot tub bathing for comfort. Bathing in warm water is also a pleasant way to socialize. Whether you stay at our facility or not, you can book our wood-fired sauna raft and hot tubs. The sauna has space for 12 people, and adjacent to the sauna there is a relaxation room. The swimming ladder is located right outside the door. Our wood-fired hot tubs with seawater are on the beach with stairs down to the sea. On the beach, we also have a small pavilion that we call the ‘beach house’ with tables/seating, a fireplace, and beautiful sea views. This can preferably be booked additionally if you want to bathe in the hot tub and have a bit of a hangout beforehand. The sauna and hot tub are heated when you arrive, and we clean up after you.

Fishing

Mackerel fishing

Mackerel has always been important to the people of Bohuslän. During the summer, mackerel come into the bay, and fishing can be very successful. If we fish responsibly, mackerel, with their healthy stocks, are one of the fish we can catch with a clear conscience. Mackerel can be caught in many ways, but the most common is with bait from a stationary boat or trolling behind a boat moving slowly. Rent a boat and fishing gear from us and bring a picnic basket from our restaurant.

Trout fishing

Between April and September, you can fish for sea trout with us. The shallow bays near the facility have plenty of sandworms that sea trout like. Sea trout is often fished standing in the bay with high waders and a fly or spin fishing rod. We organize activities around trout fishing with guides on request, for example with Tom at Uddevalla Fishing. Also see our sea trout package.

Remember to take care of our fish stocks and to follow the regulations for fishing in the area. Read more here.
