Hiking around Anfasteröd Gårdsvik

Anfasteröd Gårdsvik’s proximity to both the sea and forest, combined with its rural location, makes the range of hiking trails and walking paths extensive. Generally, it can be said that the walks along the sea, such as the Kuststigen, often follow smaller roads and pedestrian/cycle paths through built-up areas, while the trails at Bredfjället, including the Bohusleden, follow paths through natural areas with forests, bogs, and lakes. Some of the trails start right outside our reception, while others require you to reach a starting point further afield. The sketched map at the bottom of the page indicates the location of the different hiking suggestions in relation to us (marked with a blue star).

The Viewpoint Trail and Shorter Walks

Our shortest and perhaps most beautiful hike, the Viewpoint Trail, is only 2.5 km round trip and takes you through the forest and up the mountain behind our facility. You’ll be rewarded with a magical view of Fräknefjorden—especially at sunset! The Sparreviken loop starts at our reception and takes you along the sea, offering both rocky cliffs and a small sandy beach for those who would like to take a swim (5 km).

A digital map with the hiking trails can be found here.

Kuststigen/The Coastal Path

Kuststigen/The Coastal Path stages 4 and 5 pass by our reception. The best information about the trail can be found in the official hiking guide here. These hikes are not circular routes but follow the trail southward or northward. The route stage 4 Saxenhov – Ljungskile on the Coastal Path (and a small part into Stage 5, through Lyckorna back to us) runs through countryside landscape, past a medival church, and though areas with villas. It offers many opportunities for swimming and eating, such as at Ulvesund’s Växthus, Kärrstegens gård, and Laxbutiken. If you hike south from us instead, on stage 5 of the Coastal Path you walk through less populated agricultural landscapes to Kolhättan’s ferry terminal. This route is not along the seaside but is more rural than the northen route.

Public transportation: Since this trail is not circular transportation might be desirable one way. Public transportation is available but not frequet, through Västtrafik. Our closest bus stop is “Hummervägen”. For more options hike to the village and take the bus from Ljungskile station. We can arrange with a ride but you need to book well in advance. At some occations in the summer there are boats run by Skärgårdsbåtarna from our dock (Anfasteröd) north to “Åh”, right next to Saxenhov. For the southern rout “Kolhättan” is a good bus stop for a return ride.

Bredfjället and Bohusleden

Bredfjället is a plateau mountain area east of Ljungskile, characterized by forests and wetlands, as well as a large number of lakes. It is wild and with very few inhabitiants but ritch with hiking trails and wildlife. To Bredfjället there is no public transportation but it is possible to reach by car. Many trails start at Norra Fjällets outdoor area where there is a parking lot, dry toilets, and a nice old school that is now a museum (open only sometimes). The shorter trails around here are well marked but you will need a map for the longer ones. There is a lovely guide “Bredfjälls guiden” with themed hikes based on the history of the mountain and information about naturefor hikes in the area. We can provide you with the guide at the reception but it is in swedish only. We also sell maps at the reception.

One well maintained hike in the area is Stage 11 of the Bohusleden trail passes over Bredfjället, and a description of the trail can be found at the trail’s website. There are many paths on the mountain, and it’s possible to hike part of the Bohusleden trail and then take another path in a loop back to the starting point. However, if you venture off the marked trail, you need to be confident in reading a map. Be aware that there are parts without mobile coverare in the Bredfjället area.

The lake Skarsjön trail

A pleasant and easily navigable full-day hike in the area of Bredfjället is the tour around Skarsjön lake which is 8 km long. This tour offers both swimming opportunities, wind shelters, and barbecue areas, as well as breathtaking views from the cliff on the northern part of the lake. Parking is available both at the water treatment plant at the southwestern end of the lake and at Norra Fjällets parking lot at the northern end of the lake.

Väktorsjöarna

On the outskirts of Bredfjället lies Väktorsjöarna lake with beautiful environments to hike in. A pleasant tour is the trail around Store Väktor. Parking spots are indicated on the map in the link.
